Sing and Dance with the Pennsylvania Dutch by Ruth Housman. She comments that the music of this people has been neglected and many assume they were not very musical.
It was this people who brought the zitter with them from Germany, as early as the mid 17th century.

One subgroup of Pennsylvania Dutch were the Moravians. Here is a link to the Moravian Music Foundation.
